Bio-identical HRT was widely used until synthetic hormones like Premarin were introduced in the 1940s.
Because bio-identical hormones cannot be patented, they receive less promotion from pharmaceutical companies.

Some temporary symptoms may occur during the adjustment phase.
For women:
• Fluid retention (temporary)
• Breast tenderness
• Irregular bleeding (should always be evaluated)
• Sleepiness (often from progesterone timing)
• Acne or hair changes (can be managed)
For men:
• Mild fluid retention
• Acne
• Increased hair growth
• Possible testicular shrinkage and reduced sperm count
